Audits & baseline assessments

Internal audits

Work Environment Group conducts periodic audits of the University's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHS MS) to determine whether:

  • the system has been properly developed, implemented and maintained and
  • ANU has met the performance objectives set out in the WHS Strategic Plan.

Audit reports assist Colleges and Service Divisions in identifying gaps in their WHS system. Audit reports contain corrective actions which detail specific requirements for system improvements. Responsible persons will be given a period of time to address corrective actions detailed in audit reports. Items not corrected within the appointed time, without a satisfactory explanation, will be noted by ANU WHS Committee.

ANU WHS Audit Plan details audit activities for specific parts of the WHS MS.

External audits

External audits of ANU WHS systems are conducted by:

  • regulators (eg Comcare, ARPANSA)
  • external auditors engaged by ANU.

External audits are conducted periodically to verify that internal processes are effective and to provide specialist advice and knowledge on specific parts of the WHS MS.

Baseline Assessments

The Baseline Assessment Program is designed to assist Colleges and Service Division in identifying opportunities for improvement in their WHS MS. The baseline assessment documentation has been developed using AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems. Baseline assessments cover the following areas:

  1. WHS Policy
  2. Planning
  3. Implementation
  4. Measurement and evaluation
  5. Management review.

Further information on the Baseline Assessment Program can be found in the baseline assessment documentation or by contacting the Work Environment Group.
